Your Anonymous Secrets On Display

Secrets, like their owners, have unique personalities. Most, by their very nature, can be unsettling to hear. However, once we get passed the initial shock, an anonymous confession can be like a peak into the window of humanity. Every undisclosed morsel holds in it a vulnerability, or a tragic joke, or a mischievous spark that most human beings can relate to on some level. Even if you can't fathom how some people can endure such deep secrets, when secrets are given up anonymously there is something cathartic in how we can (if we choose to) embrace them with compassion and non-judgement. One of my favorite blogs called
PostSecret, is an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a postcard.

A friend and owner of Urban Alchemist in Park Slope, Brooklyn is doing an art installation that is similiar in vein to PostSecret and also a re-creation of an installation that happened in Dumbo years ago. The times blog did a write-up on it at http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/01/12/just-give-in-to-the-cold/. She has asked me to spread the word about the event, but most importantly, she needs people to contribute to this interesting project by mailing in an anonymous secret on a plain piece of paper (no names or return addresses please). They are hoping to have the installation up and ready by this week, so send a secret in as soon as you can! The address is: Urban Alchemist 343 5th Street Brooklyn, NY 11215
