Secrets, like their owners, have unique personalities. Most, by their very nature, can be unsettling to hear. However, once we get passed the initial shock, an anonymous confession can be like a peak into the window of humanity. Every undisclosed morsel holds in it a vulnerability, or a tragic joke, or a mischievous spark that most human beings can relate to on some level. Even if you can't fathom how some people can endure such deep secrets, when secrets are given up anonymously there is something cathartic in how we can (if we choose to) embrace them with compassion and non-judgement. One of my favorite blogs called PostSecret, is an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a postcard.
