Brooklyn's Best Family Fest!

This year is the Third Annual Brooklyn's Best Family Fest. Please join HSM for a day of family fun at BAX! Saturday, September 27, 2008 from 11am-6pm. In addition to the popular BAX Family Fest, Hip Slope Mama is collaborating with BAX to sponsor a fun and informative tabling event for parents and kids at the event.


BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange"—arts and artists in progress - is a multi-arts non-profit organization in Park Slope, Brooklyn, founded in 1991 (as the Gowanus Arts Exchange). Their mission is to provide a nurturing, year-round performance, rehearsal and educational venue in Brooklyn that encourages artistic risk-taking and stimulates dialogue among diverse constituencies.

The agenda for the BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange Third Annual Brooklyn's Best Family Fest will be as follows:

WEE ONES MUSIC CONCERT 11:30am – 12:15pm
FEATURING: BARI KORAL FAMILY BAND
"Sheryl Crow for kids." NY Post
Kids can ride airplanes, drive cars or play in a rock band in this high energy music show for the whole family. Songs for kids that parents dig!

BAXtivities 12:30pm – 4:30pm
KIDS PLAYSPACE Fun with tunnels, huts, trapeze and more!
HALLOWEEN MASKS If you can imagine it, you can make it!
MAKE A SCENE Get into character and capture it with a photo to take away!
WEARABLE ART Make tribal jewelry, clothing or creepy crawly creatures!
TATTOO YOU body art station for a tattoo that expresses YOU!
FACE PAINTING for kids & adults.
PLUS storytelling every 30 minutes.

Improv4Kids 5pm – 6pm (doors open at 4:30 p.m.)

The only improv group designed exclusively for kids: music, storytelling, dance, pantomime, and theater.

TICKETS: The concerts are $12 for Adults, $8 for kids, and kids under one year free!; BAXtivities are an all inclusive ticket price of $8 children, adults come free; An all day family pass for activities and both concerts for an unlimited number of children in one family is available for $45.



The following Hip Slope Mama sponsored tabling participants will all offer fun, family friendly interactive activities, mini consultations and free give-aways at each table from 11:30am to 4:30pm. HSM is also sponsoring great family raffle prize packages which include:
gift certificates valued at up to $150 to local stores, a brand new kid's bike valued at $275, a personal trainer valued at $120, movie tickets, and much more!

  • Joyce Szuflita, a School Consultant from NYC School Help will be there to answer questions you might have about her services including "How to find the right school for your child – whether for Pre-K, Elementary School or High School".
  • Galia Gichon, of Down to Earth Finance will provide mini-consultations to a few families and talk about the cost of raising kids, family budgeting, saving for college, etc.
  • Get Fresh, of Park Slope, Brooklyn will be there with free organic cookies that the kids can decorate themselves. They will talk to parents about the cooking classes they offer to kids (3-9) and adults. Get Fresh provides ready-to-cook meals made with healthy, sustainable, and seasonal farm-fresh ingredients
  • Professional Photographer, Hilary Mchone, will be on hand to take free, fun "Make a Scene" family portraits.
  • Park Slope Eye, is one of the only InfantSEE® member optometrists in Brooklyn. Under this program, they provide a comprehensive infant eye assessment within the first year of life as a no cost public health service. Be sure to come to the event and sign up for a free eye assessment for your child. They will also be available to provide parents (with kids aged 1-10) informational material on the importance of eye check-ups and they'll bring a variety of stylish children's glasses to try on too.
  • Eats.com will be on site handing out free Park Slope/Prospect Heights Eats.com magazines and the Eats.com table will have samplings of food for sale from local restaurants!
  • Mike Leach, the owner of Puppetworks, will be on site with one of his most popular puppets.
  • I, Melissa Lopata, the Founder of Hip Slope Mama, will be there handing out a free gift to each family! Additionally, if you sign up for the weekly free HSM E-mail Newsletter at the event you get a chance to win a Casio Baby G Women's Watch valued at $160.
